Semi-Chibi Head Tutorial

First let me just tell you that there is no worng way or right way to draw a head. You pretty much draw what is natural and comfortable for you. Personally, I don't sketch out my faces before I draw them, I just go with what looks and feels right. You might find sketching out guidelines first is easiest for you. I tried to break this quick sketch down into steps so it easier to follow. Just because Im showing you how to draw my style doesn't mean it has to be yours. You can twist anything I show you to make your pictures unique.

Since this is Semi-Chibi, begin by drawing a circle rather than an egg. Draw it dark enough to see but light enough to erase later on. In this case were drawing the person lightly facing the left. This means their features will be slightly to the left as well.
Don't worry if it’s not completely circular. Semi-Chibi isn't perfectly proportioned nor is it entirely deformed like full blow Chibi. Next step is to draw a line slightly above the half of the circle. If your character is facing upward then draw a convex line. If he or she is facing downward then draw a concave. For this picture, draw a concave. This line will now be the Top Eyelid Guideline. Once again be sure to draw it lightly so you will be able to erase it. Now that you have made your first guideline, it’s time to make the guidelines for each eye.
